Settings
Settings
Open Settings from the gear button in the panel. Here's what each control does.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Launch at Login | Starts Overflow automatically when you log in, so it's already running in the menu bar without a manual launch. |
| Scan Interval | How often Overflow re-checks which menu bar items are visible or hidden. Choose 1s, 2s, 5s, or 10s. |
| Global Hotkey | Toggle for Control + Option + M, which opens the panel from anywhere without clicking the menu bar icon. |
| Permissions | Live status for Accessibility and Screen Recording, each shown as Granted (green) or Not Granted. |
Scan Interval: responsiveness vs. battery
A shorter interval means Overflow notices a newly hidden or newly visible icon sooner, at the cost of checking more often in the background. A longer interval uses less battery and CPU but can lag a few seconds behind a change — for example, right after another app adds a new menu bar icon.
- 1s — most responsive; noticeable on battery over a full day.
- 2s — a reasonable default for most people.
- 5s — better battery life, still fast enough for normal use.
- 10s — lowest overhead; changes can take up to ten seconds to show up in the panel.
Permission status indicators
Accessibility and Screen Recording each show their own status in Settings. A green Granted badge means macOS has actually applied the permission — if either shows as not granted, see the install guide or Troubleshooting.
